The idea for SuperHeart came about because parents were invited to come to my older son's Kindergarten class to make a craft project and my son wanted me to make comic books. Oh no! How do you make a comic book with Kindergardeners?? I drew a quick something so I'd have a simple example on hand. It was around Valentine's Day, and my comic was about a superhero called SuperHeart. Before I left the classroom that day, my son's friend Sophia asked if she could have the SuperHeart booklet to take home. Sophia was one of my favorites: the kind of kid who always has magic marker on her hands. Since I didn't want to part with my only copy of the booklet -- quick, messy, and simple as it was -- I asked Sophia if she'd wait while I made another one. Then I went home and got into it, cleaned it up, decided I liked it, copied it, and sent the spruced up version out as Valentine's Day cards (Sophia got the original). The booklet to the left is the third in the SuperHeart Valentine's Day card/booklet series. --EH
