When my older son was almost three and my younger son was an infant, there was a period of about three months when at some point in each day all three of us would all be crying. The baby cried because he was a baby, the little one cried because he was having a hard time adjusting to being and having a brother, and I cried out of exhaustion combined with a sense of loss for the person I thought I had been before becoming responsible for crying children. On one of those days, I attempted a distracting maneuver: telling a story. It may not seem radical, but anything that wasn't crying was radical in that moment. Carnato Baa, the hero of that first story, would be the hero of many stories to come. At first it seemed like Carnato had too many brothers to count, but over time, the brothers solidified into five: Boo Boo; Chan; Ba; BaBa; and Twister Pants, plus a sister, Lila Longjohns. The booklet to the left was made for my older boy's 4th birthday. My husband Hiroyuki Hamada helped with the illustrations.
